Hours and details: Monday-Friday 4 p.m.-6 p.m. and 9 p.m.-11 p.m. in the bar and lounge. $5 menu with appetizers, tap beer, wine, and specialty cocktail of the day.
Venue: W.A. Frost lays on the charms real thick. Inside, the bar has a Faulkner-esque charm, full of dark wood, tin ceilings, and a New Orleans vibe that makes us feel very at home. This is what a bar is supposed to be--intimate, warm, and a place where no one will stare if you act a bit the fool. Outside, a whole other kind of charm happens with the patio full of flowers in bloom, lovely statuary and fountains, warm fires burning if the evenings get cool, and twinkling lights shining all evening long.
Verdict: This is the happy hour you take your out-of-town friends to. The $5 menu has some really inviting choices: calamari, Korean chicken wings, mini pulled pork sandwiches, fries with a trio of aeoli, all winners. We were a little tentative about the specialty cocktail--this evening made with SoCo--but it turned out to be right nice in a mojito-ish way. While a $5 tap beer may not be the most stellar happy hour deal in town, you come here for the experience, and this experience is exceptionally fine.
