Best Dishes Countdown #36: Poutine at Rabbit Hole

Is this your brain on drugs? No, it's the poutine at the Rabbit Hole.

Is this your brain on drugs? No, it's the poutine at the Rabbit Hole.

When a restaurant names a dish after one of the better stoner movies of all time, you just know it’s going to be good. The Harold & Kumar poutine at the Rabbit Hole lives up to its name. This rib-sticking combination of unlikely bedfellows will satisfy even the most raging case of the munchies and make you happy whether you’re clean and sober, high as a kite, or between tipsy and drunk.

If poutine strikes you as just a messy pile of sodden fries drowned in gloppy gravy, this Korean/Indian/Mexican riff on the Canadian classic is about to blow your mind.

It all starts with the house-cut fries. Chef and owner Thomas Kim is a self-professed fry fanatic, and these beauties are thick cut and cooked to crispy perfection, giving them a crunchy exterior that can stand up to a blanket of rich pork curry gravy. Kimchi and caramelized onions add spice and sweetness, while Parmesan and cheddar contribute a comforting cheesiness. It’s all topped off with an earthy chipotle aioli and a soft poached egg. Harold and Kumar would be proud.
