Get The Wedding Guys® expert advice on your wedding dilemmas!

    Question:
I am currently thinking about having a HARLEM RENAISSANCE themed wedding in May or August of 2009 in New York City. What would be a great color scheme? What kind of flowers should I incorporate to reflect that era? Finally, what kind of favors should I give to my guests to really set the tone? Thanks a lot for you advice.....

    Answer:
We have some great ideas. We're seeing some black with silver/gold - even a mustard color. Some major accent colors like red or purple. We're seeing hats, you know with French Tulle netting, fur or mink stoles. We're also seeing antique cars or car for the wedding party or just the bride and groom.

You can ask your guests to dress the part as well. You can have the MOB and MOG wear fashions from the era 1920-1930. What a wonderful fashion time it was.

For the dance we are seeing a Jazz Singer with a Huge orchid on her gown. Fog is a must, cigars, that smoky jazz club feel of Harlem. Wow you look to Hollywood today and the glamour of entertainers and you can say whatever!

Look back to the 20's and 30's and you will say now that's GLAMOUR!

Favors may be something such as an old 45 or 33 album you may be able to pick up from an antique dealer. This will take some time to find. You could also create a jazz CD with your favorite Jazz hits, making sure you get permission to use them and pay any additional fees. On the CD you can do an overlay would look like a record album and have your names on it and title it Jazz Hits from Anna and Jake (The Bride and Grooms Names).

Flowers honestly from back in that time would have been large mums, gladiolas, and calla lilies. You may be able to put in a few carnations as well and don't forget the leather fern.
