In the days when printing press technology and tight budgets made full-color covers a rare luxury, art directors struggled each week to do something visually distinctive within their two-color palette.

Sometimes they succeeded. Not here. The idea was to suggest motion lines. The effect was to make readers wonder why anyone would drop napalm on a Vikings game.
