Longtime artists and U of M professors Diane Katsiaficas and Thomas Rose receive the star treatment this month as their work is celebrated in this exhibition and at several public panels with former students who are now professional artists on their own trajectories. Those former students — including Kate Casanova, Kelsey Bosch, Krista Kelley Walsh, and Ali Raza — also have work in the show, which will elicit inevitable comparisons between the mentors’ and mentees’ aesthetic sensibilities and artistic manifestations. Katsiaficas’ work ranges from drawings to multimedia installations that convey, often through repetitive imagery, stories about people and places. Meanwhile, Thomas is best known for photography, and his current inkjet prints portray objects collected and staged to invite curiosity in matters of scale, use, and narrative probability.
