Experimental-film lovers, audiophiles, and fans of sensory experiences, rejoice: There’s a new festival of underground film/video coming to Minneapolis. It’s co-presented by the Walker Art Center and Cellular Cinema, a collective of Minnesota-based experimental filmmakers and video artists who have been hosting workshops, screenings, and showcases since 2014. The Cinematic & Audio Visual Experimentation (CAVE) festival boasts screenings and installations featuring artists from all over the U.S. and Canada, with themes of winter, hibernation, and dreaming folded in. Things get started on Wednesday with a selection of short works from Winnipeg and Minneapolis, including the world premiere of the three-projector expanded cinema 16mm film Everything Turns by Winnipeg-based filmmaker Aaron Zeghers. Events will continue with nightly screenings at Bryant-Lake Bowl, as well as happenings at the Walker Art Center on Thursday at 6 p.m. and at the White Page Gallery and Hair & Nails Gallery at 7 p.m. on Friday.
