It's not every day that a designer quits her day job at Target, plunges head-first into building her own business, and finds herself not only succeeding but about to take her brand to the next level. That's what Kathryn Sterner Sieve, founder of Winsome, has done, and she's doing it spectacularly. Since 2014, Sterner Sieve has specialized in minimal, modern, and limited-edition threads like women's jumpsuits, vinyl tanks, crop tops, and midi dresses. Initially working out of a northeast Minneapolis studio, this subtle trendsetter is currently converting a 1975 Airstream into a studio on wheels that will allow her to take operations around the country to partner with boutiques and bloggers on pop-up shops. How did this happen? With a little help from Kickstarter. Sterner Sieve raised an impressive $21k (and change) in only a month on the crowdfunding site, gifting her 234 backers with Winsome's curated goods like her "Well, Shit." tote bags, vinyl wallets, and suede clutches. Next stop? World domination.
