Amid the Twin Cities' deep-seated tradition of soul and R&B music, rising sensation PaviElle holds her own among the greats and shines as her own unique entity. Much of PaviElle's work is in conversation with the sounds and the political focuses of pro-black soul music from the '60s and '70s, but there's a definite contemporary edge pushing her material into new territory. She pulls from her own theater experience and engagement in social activism to put on powerful live performances. Her voice has a subtlety that sinks into the rich, organic grooves of her eight-piece backing band, but maintains a dynamic range and unflinching directness. Far more than simply echoing soul music's revolutionary mindset from generations past, PaviElle translates personal experiences and Afrocentric historical perspectives into a narrative to inspire future generations.
