Record Store Day isn't a competition, it's a moment to celebrate all of the independent record stores in the community. That said, there are some stores that warrant more attention for how they mark the occasion, namely the family-owned Hymie's. The vinyl institution has held East Lake real estate since the 1980s, and they make a show of that community spirit when the opportunity arises. Hosting a block party that involves rare vinyl for the collectors, bargain bins for the dedicated, and also live outdoor music (all local), they don't stop there. Expect food, drink, and a festive play area for the wee ones. It's a neighborhood celebration of what the wonder of music can bring out in us all, from bairns to elderly.
