Yoga studios have become as ubiquitous in the Twin Cities as Caribou Coffee shops, and many of them are great—so trying to select just one best place is enough to throw off one's inner peace. Luckily, it's nearly impossible to feel stressed at taraNa yoga in Uptown Minneapolis. It's a tiny place with small classes and individualized attention. The relaxing decor of the studio—blue and tan walls, beautiful wood floors, a bath of floating lotus flowers—and the accepting attitude of the teachers is enough to make anyone want to become a yogi. Tension melts away amid soft music as students stretch and bend in the low-lit, decidedly non-threatening space. Gentle beginner's yoga on Monday and Wednesday nights is the best introduction for novices. Morning classes are generally more vigorous, and with the bright early light streaming into the studio's storefront windows, they are an invigorating way to start the day. Each of taraNa's five instructors has an individual teaching style, but all make sure students' bodies are properly aligned. Best of all, the classes are small enough that the instructors know their students' names.
