West Elm LOCAL pop-up coming to Mia this week

For many, a gander through the museum gift store is a must-do activity to cap off a day exploring art (or heck, sometimes we do it first if it's the holiday season or an artsy friend's birthday is coming up). This week, the Minneapolis Institute of Art's shop will be getting an extra boost, as the museum has teamed up with West Elm to create a pop-up offering items from creative types.

The temporary shop will feature products from 14 artisans, makers, and small businesses. Four of those talents you may already recognize, as they are from Minnesoa. Oh Dier creates brightly colored wood children's toys and cool, modern jewelry boxes, hangable word art; Mod Dog makes quirky dog collars; Marvin Freitas designs natural end tables and home items; and Louis Gray's abstract wall hangings will also be for sale. Other items include handmade soap, tote bags, blankets, and more.

The pop-up will run in compliment to “State of the Art: Discovering American Art Now,” an exhibition, opening February 18 at Mia, showcasing over 130 pieces by contemporary artists currently working across the U.S.

The temporary shop opens this Thursday and runs through May 29.
