Irv Williams Birthday Celebration
Published on August 15, 2008 at 3:21am
Earlier this year, local jazz icon and tenor sax specialist Irv Williams released Finality, said to be his last album. Considering it was recorded nearly a year ago and he's still gigging around town on a regular basis, it could really just be considered a partial farewell, and it's fortunate that he's still giving fans as many chances as possible to hear him perform -- no small feat, given that this upcoming birthday celebration is for the big eight-nine. This gig at the Dakota follows another celebratory two-night stand at the Artists' Quarter on Friday and Saturday, and given what a local legend "Mr. Smooth" is, this is one party not to be missed.
